I hope everyone had a relaxing and joyful holiday!
As you may have read in your Thursday packet before break, our class is blessed to have a student teacher, Ms. Kelly Peterson, for the next 8 weeks! Kelly is working toward her certification in Special Education and Elementary Education, and over the next few weeks will be taking over a few subjects at a time. This is a great opportunity for this class to have TWO teachers as a resource. If you see Kelly around, be sure to say hi!
Today we started our Social Studies Economics Unit! Throughout this unit, students learn how to be entrepreneurs, as well as learn important terms like: producers, consumers, services, goods, income, budget, etc. Market Day is our big project for the unit – students will create a product in class to sell during our Market Day. They will advertise, earn money for jobs, budget their money, buy resources, then create a product in a large quantity. Some students even pick up on skills like negotiating. The 4th grade class comes into our class to “buy” desired products. All in all – a great unit! All of this is done in class, but you may hear your child talking about this at home!
Our next field trip is coming up on February 5th to Pike Place Market. Our economics unit is a great way to learn about the market in a small scale way. We will have a visitor from Pike Place Market Education program coming tomorrow to explain to us the many parts of the Market. We are so excited!
If your child is in my class for math, please remind them to keep practicing those multiplication facts!!
Sunday, January 27th from 9:30-12:30 is our school Open House and the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. If you have any family or friends interested in our school, please let them know!
Thank you for all your help and support!
